West 83rd Street Townhouse

Upper East Side | New York | 2017
5600 sq.ft.
The challenge of transforming a narrow, historic townhouse on New York’s Upper West Side into a modern, open space inspired us to reinterpret the loft concept, resulting in a vertical loft that seamlessly connects both horizontal and vertical planes.
By designing the grand staircase as a fluid, serpentine coil, we created a dynamic passage and light well that unites the spaces with openness and continuity. The design incorporates honest, contemporary materials, while a new addition houses a private entertainment lounge with uninterrupted views of both north and south Manhattan.
The result is a spatially continuous home that feels expansive despite its compact size, achieving a harmonious blend of modern living and historic charm.
